Rhinotip
Rhinotip
is a rubber tip designed by a board certified ear, nose, and
throat doctor that turns an ordinary Water Pik® into a health
spa for your nose. Waterpik® unit
must be purchased separately.
Soft Rubber Adapter Tip Usage
Place the head facing down into the bathroom sink, and rest
the top of the forehead on the faucet, while the irrigation
is proceeding. Contrary to common conception, the direction
of the main portion of the nasal cavity is straight back into
the head where it meets the upper part of the throat (nasopharynx).
Therefore, the head should be facing down, as this allows the
irrigant to slowly fill the nasal cavity on one side, then after
reaching to top, cross over and drain out the other nostril
without going down the throat. It's important to let the saline
just passively flow out the other nostril. Blowing or trying
to force it out, as it is draining, may just drive fluid up
into eyes or ears. Never put anything into saline irrigant that
would be harmful to the eyes or ears.
The tip is designed to conveniently fit onto the wand of a Water
Pik®. It is molded from a soft rubber to fit snugly and
comfortably into the nostril and direct a gentle flow of solution
into the nose. Used in conjunction with a simple home recipe
of salt, baking soda, and water, the gentle pulsitile action
will clean the nasal passageways without harsh drugs or chemicals.
Simply slip the Rhinotip over the end of a standard tapered,
curved WaterPik® attachment, add saline solution to the
water reservoir, and turn on at the lowest pressure to get a
cleansing, rejuvenating circular irrigation through the nose
and any exposed sinus openings.
"Will I choke on the water?"
The internal nasal anatomy is such that both nostrils lead
into an opening called the nasopharynx, immediately behind the
nose. With the head down, water will flow up into the nostril,
entering the nasopharynx, and go down and out the other nostril
into the sink. If done properly, breathing through your mouth,
water should not go down your throat.
The first time may seem a bit awkward, but it does not take
long to adjust to the sensation of the solution. Before you
know it, you are well on your way to clean, moist nasal passages.
